isoblox update

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 6, 2007, 9:06 AM
Here's an update to my freeware open-source project for pixel artists, isoblox:

I have uploaded a major code update and a release to SourceForge [link] and have also uploaded my main code tree to SF.net's SVN system. For those of you unfamiliar with version control, SVN is a beautiful thing. [link]

For the latest version (alpha 3), here's a rundown on some of the new things you can do:
- save and load data files in a text format
- save screenshots
- load a data file as a 'brush'
- copy a selection to a 'brush'
- delete one block or a selected volume
- rotate blocks (90 degrees)
- change the app's configuration via external *.cfg file

Try it out! [link]

Isoblox / a pixel art project

An open source pixel art project

[link]

This project is totally open-source, using a language called BlitzMax. If you've never heard of it, check it out.

The purpose is to create a cross-platform app to help isometric pixel artists (or anyone really) lay out isometrically-aligned scenes, such as a city block or structure, and export the canvas to popular image formats. Everything takes place in a pseudo-3D isometric volume, displayed in a minimalistic window. The current version is not yet feature-complete as far as what I have planned, but you can create things with it. Worth checking out!

Programming for the Joy of it

Journal Entry: Wed May 11, 2005, 12:51 AM
I have been working hard on a new project in C++, my favorite language, and it's coming along nicely. It's named simply EVO. My website (see link at top of page) has a link to my project (or you can click here [link]). It's a zipped .exe for Win32 systems, and it should run with no problems on just about any computer. The purpose of the project is to simulate various genetic algorithms, which it will do when complete. At present, there are a few minor bugs which are causing crashes in the genetics portion, and not every portion is even implemented yet, but that's where my creative energies have been going of late. You may want to check it out if you're a programmer, it's a neat little app. Some basic instructions are included in the zip, but all the instructions you should need are found within the app itself. There's an about menu and stuff.

Peace,
Tyler
